Seamariner are currently searching for a Fleet Manager that can build/run our clients new Pelagic Fishing fleet which will be operating out of the Middle East. The Fleet will be targeting both small pelagic fish (such as Horse Mackerel) and large pelagic fish (such as Tuna), other responsibilities will be the building and managing of the processing plants and marketing set up as deemed necessary by the board. For this operation to be successful any potential candidate will need excellent people management and negotiation skills with a natural driven working attitude. All accommodation and daily travel costs will be incorporated into the Candidates salary package, the job start date is still yet to be confirmed.

  • Duties and Responsibilities:

    The Fleet Manager is responsible for building and running the Fishing project, this involves recruiting and building both the Onshore and Offshore teams and regularly liaising with all the fleets vessels and their respective Captains/Chief Engineers. Regular contact and forming a good understanding with the fleet will be vital for the Fleet Manager as they will be co-ordinating; the vessels movements (based on fishing), logistical requirements, necessary repairs, crew changes and fish sale opportunities. This means that the candidate is going to require a thorough working knowledge of the principal key areas of all the company’s vessels including: various freezing techniques, electronic navigation, communication and fish finding equipment, nets (net repairs) as well as keeping an inventory of the vessels spare parts either afloat or ashore on a cost-effective basis. All of this will help the Candidate achieve the maximisation of the fleets days at sea (fishing days) and efficiently and effectively manage the maintenance, repairs, annual inspections and insurance surveys of the vessels whether in dry-dock or afloat. It will also be required for the Fleet manager to understand all international laws, and regulations applying to sea-going fishing vessels, with attention paid to their safe navigation and crew safety. They shall also be fully conversant with all regional and international fishery rules and regulations governing the Company’s operations. As necessary, he/she will attend and represent the Company at all regional meetings with the goal that the Company is in full compliance with all FAO and (selected) NGO rules and regulations on sustainable fishing. They will report back to the Board of Directors regularly on this compliance, and, as and when necessary, give the Board a signed statement that the Company and its vessel(s) are in full compliance of same.

  • Experience required:

    The candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in wild fishing industry operations with at least 5 years as fleet manager or a similar senior post, they must also have extensive experience in vessel crew and officer recruitment, as well as any expatriate or local shore support and vessel maintenance/repair personnel

  • Qualifications required:

    Potential candidates will need to be educated to Masters level, ideally in relation to the field of fisheries, whilst also having excellent English language skills both written and spoken. Unless you meet this criteria you sadly cannot be considered for the role.
